# Set up your workspace and accounting year

> Create your workspace, add its first accounting year, and switch between years.

A workspace holds your organization's records and team access. Each accounting year has its own purchases, sales, inventory, and activity records.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create your workspace">
    After signing in to a new account, enter a **Workspace name** on the **Create your workspace** screen. Use a name your team will recognize, such as *Acme Manufacturing*. Click **Create workspace**.

    </Frame>

    If you are joining an existing workspace, accept its invitation instead.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the first accounting year">
    The workspace opens behind the **Set up your first accounting year** dialog. Enter a four-digit year, such as **2026**.

    The **Reporting period** dates are optional. To specify a range, fill in both **From** and **To**, with the end date on or after the start date. You can leave both blank.

    Click **Create year** to open that year's Purchases table.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the year before adding data">
    The current year appears near the top of the sidebar, under **Accounting**. Purchases and other records you add belong to this year.

    You can enter the purchase's actual date, even if it falls outside the reporting range. The purchase appears in the accounting year you selected.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Return to a workspace

When you open Moya again, it opens an existing workspace directly and uses its latest accounting year. You do not need to repeat the first-year setup.

## Switch accounting years

Click the current year in the sidebar and choose another existing year. Moya opens that year's Purchases table.

</Frame>

## Add another accounting year

1. Open the **three-dot Workspace options** menu beside the year.
2. Choose **Add accounting year**.
3. Enter a new four-digit year and, optionally, its reporting dates.
4. Click **Create year**.

Choose a year that does not already exist in the workspace. If you do not have access to create one, ask an Admin.

Product opening stock carries forward from the previous year's closing stock when the next year is created. Review the opening balances in the new year's Product Inventory before recording activity.

## Open the legacy workspace

For an organization with legacy access, open **Workspace options** and choose **Legacy workspace**. The legacy workspace and the new year's tables are separate.
