# PCF versions and snapshots

> Review source versions and save a fixed PCF value for a report.

A PCF version records its definition, including the organization or BOM versions selected as sources. Its calculated value can still change when an upstream PCF changes. A snapshot freezes the value and the report's source records.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open version history">
    In **Company PCFs**, open the PCF's actions and select **Show version history**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review a version">
    Choose a version to see its method, source versions, and calculated value. Check both the PCF version and its source version labels.

    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save a snapshot">
    Select **Save snapshot** from the version view. Moya saves the version's current value and creates a report ID for the captured upstream chain.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Reopen the captured report">
    Use **Report snapshots** in the PCF history or Company PCFs toolbar. Choose the report ID to view its captured sources.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Editing a PCF creates a new PCF version. Later source changes do not rewrite an existing report snapshot.

To inspect the organization or BOM data captured for a report, see [Report snapshots and historical records](/user-guides/review/report-snapshots). To stop using a PCF while retaining history, use **Archive**. Permanent historical deletion is a separate action.
